New Perception System and Skirmish Tutorial!
Perception helps bots see, hear and feel the world. The default Unreal Engine perception system was somewhat limiting and cumbersome to work with, so I went ahead and wrote a new one better suited to our game. With the new system the bots see using multiple view cones (see image), one for focus vision, one for normal vision and one for peripheral vision. This means they won't spot you as fast if you're far away unless they are looking straight at you. If you're close by they will notice you even if you're not centered in their field of view.
Another improvement is bots can now shoot back even if you are shooting them from a distance beyond their view range (>150m). You can think of it as bots seeing the muzzle flash and shooting back. This should make the sniper role a less overpowered.
In addition to all this the tutorials were polished and sections added explaining the new realistic tank sights. A brand new tutorial explaining skirmish mode in detail is also available now. Let me know what you think!
