New map, water, formations and interaction menu!
A beautiful new map called Mountain Stream was added. For the first time it will be possible to swim in water and drown if you stay under for too long. The map is quite small and infantry only, so if you want some quick action this one might be for you!
Bots now follow their squad leader in formation. Before every bot had their own goal and did their own thing. Now the squad leader chooses a goal like attacking a control point and the squad follows. The formation helps bots to spread out where possible and not clump up around the squad leader.
The interaction menu was also vastly improved. Before there were 2 different interact buttons and we could only support 2 different interactions at the same location. Think "deploy"/"pack up" gun. With the new system it is possible to scroll through all the actions and choose the one you want. The actions are prioritized, so "get in" will always be before "pack up".
Let me know what you think!
WW2 FPS 0.0.25
Changes:
- Removed Mission mode for now because of lack of time to test those maps. The focus is on Skirmish mode for the time being.
New features:
- New map: Mountain Stream
- Soldiers can now swim in water and drown
- Water now damages vehicle engines
- Bots will now follow the squad leader and try to stay in formation
- Bots can be given move commands by right clicking the map and choosing "move" in the context menu.
- Weight of items in inventory and weight of passengers and their weapons are now added to vehicle empty weight. This affects vehicle suspension and movement.
- Soldiers can now pick up and carry ammo boxes. Walk speed while carrying is affected by the weight of the box.
- It now shows in Discord when you are playing the game.
Improvements:
- Limited number of commandable/buildable bots in squad to avoid command menu overflowing.
- Every human player now spawns is his own squad. This prevents players from commanding bots of others.
- We now add a physics impulse to soldiers when they are hit by a vehicle.
- Showing markers above enemies now uses the same code bots use for detecting enemies. This should make things more fair when there is lots of grass as bots can see through grass. Unfortunately making grass block vision would be very costly in terms of performance. Tip: Grass can be turned off completely by setting vegetation quality to low.
- When building things like sandbags or ammo boxes previews are now shown in green
- Map now uses scale (2000m, 1000m, 500m etc) instead of zoom. Minimap now keeps same scale (zoom) across maps.
- Added back DLSS option as the plugin is now available for Unreal 5.4. FSR plugin is unfortunately not available yet. Moved the upscaling settings to "Technologies" in the video settings menu.
Optimizations:
- Limited number of commandable/buildable bots in squad to avoid performance degrading.
- Optimized projectile collision for traveling in big volumes like water.
Bug fixes:
- Fix kill messages for killing mounted soldiers
- Fix vehicle collision with stationary bots
- Fixed crash reported by player related to killing a bot
- Fixed crash reported by player related to bot mounting vehicle
- Adjusted Panzer 4 top MG player location
- Fixed an issue with projectile collision. Caused no impact effect to show.
- Fixed grenade tossing on client.
